Micki & Chelsea teamed up in 2010 when they opened Northwest Birth Assistants. They changed the name to Birth Assistant Education in 2020 because people all over the United States and many out of the country were enjoying their courses. They taught the first Birth Assistant Basics Course in Kirkland, WA. in January 2011. Since then they have taught many classes around the US. They were the first training program for Birth Assistants on the west coast and have taught more classes than any other program around. Together, they have attended hundreds of births, work for a busy birth center and work with local legislative regarding birth assistant laws. They bring passion to the classroom and love to teach together! Their vision is to create a learning environment where students can learn the skills and knowledge to attend births globally!

Collectively Micki & Chelsea are skilled, educated and experienced in birth assisting and birth center development & management. They are considered experts in their area and have been sharing their knowledge of birth with a national audience.

"Birth Assistant Education is notable for their online versatile material that covers necessary clinical skills, knowledge, responsibilities, and techniques of out-of-hospital birth professionals. Their expertise and guidance create enjoyable learning opportunities that are congruent with the Midwifery Model of Care™. The classes are great for people new to out-of-hospital birth or those seeking to refresh their skills. As an example, early on my path to becoming a midwife the videos and quizzes would have helped build my confidence as a student midwife, especially as a hands-on, visual learner."

- Amy Frazier, LM, CPM

"I took the birth assisting training because I was trying to get into midwifery school and I had almost no experience attending births. I wanted to get my hands on all the knowledge and training available. I'm so glad I did! Micki & Chelsea are so skilled at teaching and so experienced at birth assisting that I knew I was in good hands throughout the training. After the basic training I also took an emergency skills course and found that incredibly helpful as well. I think this course should be a prerequisite for midwifery school."
Marnie Raelene, Bastyr University 2015 midwifery graduate

"I took the Birth Assistant training while I was in midwifery school, in between my first and second year. This training was concise, focused, and hands-on. The instructors were approachable and great at explaining the course material. As a birth doula learning to be a midwife, this class was helpful to picking up concrete skills to use in my school courses. I walked into my first birth experiences as a student midwife with a firm understanding of the monitoring skills used in labor and important emergency skills."
